The iceberg is an excellent metaphor for…..basically anything. There is always more to any situation than meets the eye. The same is true even for our own selves!
Our daily behaviors and moment to moment thoughts are largely driven by deeply rooted beliefs that are at the core of who we are. These are important, of course! But if left to their own devices and unattended, these core beliefs and values can solidify cantankerously rigid and overly general. They float dormantly beneath the surface of the water (our awareness) until something rubs them just the right (or wrong!) way and suddenly it’s their time to shine so they pop right up to the surface.
So much of our practice includes cultivating self-awareness. Practice in action is having the awareness as well as executing the action to ensure we are showing up the way we want to. Leading the lives we want to live. Being the people we want to be.
Let’s reach down deep, scoop up those core values and beliefs, dust them off a little and decide to hold on to, reshape, or Marie Kondo a few.
